Title:
Divebomb
Description:
Divebomb (Energon Class, 2004)
Takara ID number: SD-08
Takara release date: February 26, 2004
Accessories: Left & right "Wind Knife” blades, Decepticon energon chip
Known designers: Eric Siebenaler (Hasbro), more»
Released in the second wave of Hasbro’s Energon "Energon Class” (aka "Basic”) toys, Divebomb transforms into a robotic hawk. His wings can further open up to reveal translucent green energon "feathers”.
His two translucent green energon blade pieces can be attached to his hawk-mode neck, and held in his robot-mode claws as either hooked blades or guns. Both blades can be combined together to form the "Energy Raiden” "Ultimate Energon Weapon” (unnamed in the Hasbro line, but named in Takara materials), a massive Z-shaped blade. Each blade has a Mini-Con-style Powerlinx port, letting them activate Armada-mold Powerlinx gimmicks. He also comes with a Decepticon-styled energon chip that can attach to any compatible Energon toy’s spark crystal.
Early versions of the Hasbro Divebomb had the right energon blade end with a rather hard pointed spike (as seen in the official photography), with small ridges on the weapons’ connector pegs, and corresponding notches on the robot’s bird-head weapon sockets, designed to keep the weapons firmly in place. Very shortly into the line, the pointed-end weapon was changed to a have a matching 5 mm post-handle (likely for safety reasons), plus the connector pegs and sockets were retooled to be perfectly round.
The Takara Super Link release of "Shadowhawk” is nigh-identical to the latter Hasbro version, with both weapons ending in handles and un-notched pegs/sockets.
This mold was also used to make the Shadowhawk Cosmo Type, and Timelines Buzzsaw and Laserbeak.
