At Guantanamo Bay Marine Base, a private is attacked by 2 other marines and dies as a result. In D.C., Jag Corps Lt. Commander, Jo Galloway conducts an investigation and reveals to her superiors that she believes the victim was attacked because he was going over the head of ’GitMo’ base commander, Colonel Nathan Jessup. He was threatening to reveal something unless he was able to get a transfer off of GitMo and out of Rifle Company Winward. Galloway believes Colonel Jessup ordered a ”code red” which basically allows soldiers to discipline fellow soldiers, this is an illegal act in the military. Galloway wants to be assigned to defend the 2 marine suspects, but her superiors prefer that the incident go away quietly so as not to hurt future U.S. Senate wanabes (Colonel Jessup); they deny her request. The case is assigned to Naval lawyer, Lt. Dan Kaffee; Kafee is known for quick plea bargains and has never tried a case in open court. But Commander Galloway warns him that if he pleads the case out, Jessup will get away with murder. Kaffee decides, not to willingly, to try the case out and to defend the two honor bound marines; but can he prove that Colonel Jessup actually gave the order.
