Title:
Transformers WFC Siege Scrapface
Description:
Loose
Scrapface (Deluxe Class, 2020)
TakaraTomy ID number: WFC-05
TakaraTomy release date: November 28, 2020
Accessories: blaster/tripod part, shield/lens part, chest module
Part of the first assortment of toys promoting the Siege season of the Netflix War for Cybertron Trilogy cartoon, Scrapface is a blue and red redeco of Siege Refraktor, transforming into a Cybertronian ”artillery hovercraft”.
Scrapface is molded almost entirely in shades of grey plastic with his splashes of colour being an extensive paint wash; this gives him the appearance of being covered in accumulated grime and battle scars, though it leaves most of his lower-legs and backside a show-inaccurate grey. He has multiple 5 mm ports and 3 mm posts to accommodate weaponry and ”Fire Blast” effects, as part of the C.O.M.B.A.T. System. Scrapface includes a blaster and shield that can be attached in multiple ways thanks to a pair of perpendicular 5 mm posts.
As with any version of this mold, Scrapface, although undocumented in the instructions, can also transform into one-third of a camera, allowing buyers to combine three units into Reflector’s classic camera mode (good luck with getting three, though!). The shield becomes one-third of a telephoto lens, while his blaster becomes one-third of a tripod. The chest module can also inaccurately attach to his torso in robot mode or camera mode, or store on his butt.
The military insignia on Scrapface’s box has him as a Ground Force Infantry Raider, while his instructions place him in the Espionage unit like his Refraktor mold-mates. A similar mix-up error was present in the concurrent Voyager Class Hotlink instructions and box.
Stock renders have more show-accurate blue lower legs, face scratches, and chest battle damage, suggesting a late change on the final toy.
This toy, like all of the Netflix War for Cybertron Trilogy toys, is a Walmart exclusive in the U.S. and Canada, and a TakaraTomy Mall exclusive in Japan.
Scrapface was repurposed as an Angolmois-corrupted form of Reflector in Generations Selects Special Comic.
Notes:
Similar to Spy-Eye, Scrapface coincidentally resembles a Starscream-based animation error of Reflector from the G1 episode ”More than Meets the Eye, Part 2”.
According to the toy’s product description on Walmart’s USA website, Scrapface is a clone of Refraktor, justifying why the two share a body-type.
Despite debuting in the Siege-adjacent War for Cybertron Trilogy wave of toys, Scrapface did not appear until the Earthrise chapter of the cartoon.
The character in the cartoon uses none of the toy’s accessories, opting for the ”HPI Null-Ray Laser Launcher” as his sole weapon.
