Masterpiece Star Saber was chosen by fans on the Masterpiece Fan’s Choice poll and announced November 19, 2013. Hisashi Yuki led the Masterpiece Star Saber project, rather than the usual Masterpiece designer, Shogo Hasui, so the creation of Star Saber did not derail the other ongoing Masterpiece releases.Star Saber keeps most of the features the original toy had, the main difference being in how the Brainmaster gimmick works: Saber’s face is in the main body rather than in the Brain of Courage figure. Also he comes with an extra accessory that was not in the original figure, the shield Star Saber used in ”Showdown! The Fortress vs the Victory Unification”, which doubles as a ”flight stand” for the figure when in its alternate mode. He also comes with two swords, one scaled for Saber and one scaled for Star Saber. The small one’s blade is stored in the slot opposite to the one where the regular blade is stored, while its hilt detaches from the big one. An undocumented feature has him storing the smaller sword hilt beneath the folding lower back panel slot near his hip/leg junction only in his vehicle mode. Unfortunately, Star Saber is infamous for his weak joints, leaving him largely unable to support his accessories or maintain a pose.Curiously, The Matrix of Leadership from any MP-10 mold fits quite nicely into the large Saber Blade hilt. Maybe the poor guy couldn’t fit the Matrix in his chest with all that Brainmaster junk.If ordered from Amazon in not-Japanese Asian states, he comes with a collector coin. The coin comes in a box shaped like Star Saber’s chest.Star Saber was released in Australia as a Toys”R”Us exclusive, with box and instructions translated to English. The English version of his bio is based on his IDW incarnation.
