12” Han Solo Prisoner & Frozen in Carbonite Block 2-Pack

Kenner/Hasbro went all out when it came to retailer exclusives for 1998. Focusing on a concept from the Original Trilogy, they produced multiple Action Collection exclusives that continued releasing characters never previously offered in the scale. The TARGET exclusive Han Solo (As Prisoner)/Carbonite Block (With Frozen Han Solo) is a nice set that focuses on the carbon-freezing events from The Empire Strikes Back. Included in this “faux” two-pack is Han Solo (As Prisoner), which includes a jacketless Han Solo and bounded with arm cuffs. You also get a Carbonite Block (With Frozen Han Solo) accessory, which is nothing more than a hollow carbonite block with space to stow the included Han Solo figure within it. The Carbonite Block (With Frozen Han Solo) has hand pegs for the figure to hold onto when it’s in this configuration. As we’ve said, it’s a nice set, but it’s not one that will wow you necessarily. The Han Solo figure has an interesting sneering expression on his face. And he bizarrely comes with an updated E-11 blaster (the version that comes with the red projectile). The arm cuffs are easily removable, but since this version of Han Solo is so incredibly scene-specific, there’s not much versatility with this version of the character. Available only as a TARGET exclusive, the set sold for $39.99 and was readily available in the Fall of 1998. Interestingly, the side of the box that shows the image of the carbonite block is from Return Of The Jedi, and not The Empire Strikes Back.
