Title:
Super Megatron (TT-GS09)
Description:
Super Megatron (September 26, 2020)
Hasbro ID number: TT-GS09
Accessories: Fusion Cannon/starship nose/tank turret, triple-barrelled cannon
Generations Selects Super Megatron is an extensive retool of Titans Return Voyager Class Galvatron, with the Titan Master gimmick being removed. The figure is based upon illustrations by Ban Magami for Super Megatron and Ultra Megatron from The Battlestars story pages, and is capable of assuming the two robot modes and two alternate modes featured therein. Although not officially a part of the War for Cybertron toyline, he has a grand total of 19(!) 5 mm ports distributed throughout his new tooling, making him more than compatible with the C.O.M.B.A.T. System.
Being faithful to the illustrations it is based upon, the figure has both a ”Super Jet Mode” and a triple-barreled ”Ultra Tank Mode”. The figure comes with his signature fusion cannon, which forms the nose of his gunship mode and the turret of his tank mode. He also has a triple-barreled cannon, which is stored inside the fusion cannon, and can be accessed by unfolding the front of the cannon and opening it up from the bottom. The triple-barreled cannon is detachable from the fusion cannon, and can be wielded by Super Megatron as a handheld weapon if you so choose.
As mentioned before, the figure also has two robot modes to represent Super Megatron and his upgraded Ultra Megatron form, which differ in forehead and chest detailing. In service to this, Super Megatron’s forehead and chest can be swapped around between his two robot modes. The two robot modes are also distinguished by weapon configuration (the fusion cannon being closed for Super Megatron and open for Ultra Megatron, and Ultra Megatron also featuring the triple-barrelled cannon mounted on his right shoulder) and gunship mode wing arrangement (folded for Super Megatron and unfolded for Ultra Megatron).
Original to the figure and its accompanying fiction, a third robot mode was also designed and given the name Ultra Megatron Omega, formed by taking the figure in its Ultra Megatron robot mode and swapping its face out for a more monstrous one. This new face appears to be an amalgam taking cues from both his live-action film counterpart’s mask in The Last Knight, as well as the face of Dark Nova. If one so wishes, he can take the Silver Matrix accessory included with Generations Selects Star Convoy and plug it into this figure’s left shoulder to replicate his initial appearance upon transforming into this form.
The Selects Special Comic promoting God Neptune further introduces a fourth robot mode, Megatron Omega: Perfect Form, into which the figure can also be configured. To achieve this, his shoulder pads must be folded back, with the smaller wing pieces angled up at a 45° angle; his chest piece with the insignia, folded forward to partially reveal the tread details; his back wings folded down at a 45° angle; and his Fusion Cannon/triple-barreled cannon should be in tank mode configuration, tabbed into the port on his upper-back, with the triple-barrels facing straight up. His Fusion Cannon barrel halves should then be angled up at 45° angles, to create an ”X-wing” shape behind him.
The aforementioned God Neptune chapter also depicts a third alternate mode for Ultra Megatron Omega, an ”SF Gun Turret Mode”. To achieve this mode, Megatron must first be placed into his Super Jet Mode, from there the subsequent steps can be taken in any order. With his waist kept in the same configuration, his legs must be rotated at the thigh, then folded up alongside his torso; his arms must be folded straight down, with the forearms folded forward, so that the figure is now resting on both them and the tank treads on his legs; the chestplate must then be lowered slightly, so that the treads touch the ground; his larger wings should be folded up into the tank mode configuration; and his smaller wings should be folded straight back.
A feature not mentioned in the instructions is that the lower part of his helmet is attached via a C joint on the neck, and can be removed to allow easier access to the forehead and face-swapping gimmick. This is particularly helpful, as otherwise there isn’t much clearance for it to turn, and the swivel is fairly tight.
Contrary to popular belief, this figure is in scale with Selects Star Convoy.
This toy was released exclusively through TakaraTomy Mall in Japan and an EB Games exclusive in Australia.
