Title:
Netflix Spoiler Megatron Fossilizer Skelevore
Description:
Spoiler Pack (Leader Unboxing, 2021)
Accessories: ”D50-R35 Fusion Cannon,” ”HPR Telescopic Laserstrike Launcher” (combines to form ”NFM Particle Beam Megalauncher”), Matrix of Leadership bandolier, Allspark, two Fire Blast effects, compound, tail weapon
Promoting the Kingdom chapter of the Netflix War for Cybertron Trilogy cartoon, Megatron is a minor redeco of the above Netflix Siege-based Megatron, with blue highlights on the ”HPR Telescopic Laserstrike Launcher” instead of red, and more accurate chest battle damage (albeit, to his appearance in the Siege and first half of Earthrise chapters). His silver paint is also a lighter shade while the other paint applications are a darker shade. The set includes the translucent purple ”Fossilizer Skelivore”, the Matrix of Leadership on a bandolier, and a compound through which a buyer can dig to reveal two blue ”Fire Blast” effects (redecoed from Earthrise Slitherfang and Doublecrosser’s effects parts) and the Allspark.
The Matrix bandolier can latch onto his robot mode chest or his tank turret, and the Allspark is compatible with the 3 mm effects part system, featuring a 3 mm port on one face and a shallow 3 mm post of its own on the opposite side. Skelivore can use the C.O.M.B.A.T. System/F.O.S.S.I.L. Technology to weaponize Megatron, with two official configurations, and their head specifically evoking Megatron’s classic energon mace.
War for Cybertron Trilogy ”Fossilizer Skelivore” is a redeco of Kingdom Deluxe Class Paleotrex packaged alongside Megatron and a few goodies in a Leader Unboxing set promoting the Kingdom chapter of the Netflix War for Cybertron Trilogy cartoon. They ”transform” into a skeletal Tyrannosaurus to robot and back via disassembly and reassembly. Their dino-mode tail-tip becomes a serrated sword/cudgel in robot mode, or as shown in the box art, can peg into the back of their large shoulder.
As a Fossilizer, Skelivore can split into weapons and armor compatible with the C.O.M.B.A.T. System for use by other War for Cybertron Trilogy figures (or any figure with 5 mm post compatibility), with two suggested configurations with Megatron shown in the set’s instructions. Their robot-mode lower body and forearms combine into a double-clawed backpack, with the dino-mode tail and pelvic assembly forming a massive battle-axe, their dino-mode head and neck into an arm-mounted chompy-thing, their chestplate a shield, and their head, with the skull-mask down, becoming a hand-held mace. The second has their lower body still as a backpack, but now acting as twin cannons, with the dino-mode feet plugging into the bottom of a figure’s feet to be... uh, stilts, we guess, keeping the arm-mounted shield-chestplate, and combining the dino-skull and tail-axe assembly into a monstrously huge battle sword.
Due to having tiny feet and a very oddly proportioned body in robot mode, the figure can be difficult to pose without it falling over, not helped by the fact that their ”ankle” tilts are actually positioned just below their knees.
This mold was retooled with a new head for Generations Selects Transmutate, and was retooled heavily into Legacy Wreck N’ Rule Collection Spindle.
Notes
Similar to Enerax in translucent yellow, Skelivore is translucent purple to represent Megatron’s classic energon mace, aided by Paleotrex’s head already being based on Beast Wars Ultra Class Optimus Primal toy’s spiky mace.
Much like previous Spoiler Packs, this set is in a windowless box designed to look like an ammo crate and features translatable Ancient Autobot inside the box. The lateral side of the package also features artwork of Megatron, reused from the Kingdom Wave 2 Golden Disk card. Compared to the previous Spoiler Pack, the packaging itself uses less cardboard and tape and has two Decepticon-themed quotes as opposed to one Autobot and one Decepticon. The ”spoiler” text reads ”WITH THE MATRIX IN HAND / I CAN WIN THE ALLSPARK / AND USE IT TO RESHAPE / CYBERTRON IN MY IMAGE” and ”TAKE THE MATRIX / MEGATRON THEN THE / ALLSPARK MAY IT HAVE / MERCY ON YOU”, quotes from Megatron and Optimus Prime respectively from Kingdom episode 4, though Megatron’s quote in the cartoon lacks ”With the Matrix in hand”.
Megatron’s renders in the instructions feature the battle damage from the first Netflix War for Cybertron Trilogy toy, as opposed to the battle damage on this release. Also, the image showing the completely assembled second official weaponizer configuration in the instructions depicts the included effect parts being plugged onto the ends of the back-mounted cannons to simulate muzzle-flash effects; however, this configuration is impossible with the selected effect part mold types that were included with this set.
As with other Netflix-series figures, this Spoiler Pack was exclusive to Walmart in Canada and the United States. This set was also available as a Kmart exclusive in Australia and was on Hasbro Pulse in the US and the UK in limited quantities.
