• Scourge (Voyager Class, 2020)
• Movie: The Transformers: The Movie
• Hasbro ID number: 86-05
• TakaraTomy ID number: SS-62
• TakaraTomy release date: May 29, 2021
• Accessories: Disintegrator Ray, Fire Blast effect, ”Heralds of Unicron” backdrop
• Known designers: Takashi Kunihiro (TakaraTomy)
Released to commemorate the 35th anniversary of The Transformers: The Movie, Studio Series Scourge is based on his appearance in the Generation 1 cartoon. He has multiple 5 mm ports on his body and 3 mm posts at the barrel of his blasters to facilitate the C.O.M.B.A.T. System. His helmet in robot mode also has a 3 mm post on the front, which can fit the included fire blast effect.
Scourge has an odd sculpting decision: while his right hand is a fairly standard ”holding-things” fist with 5mm port, his left hand is sculpted in a more open gesture that shows off his painted pink fingernails. Both hands can hold his included gun and most 5mm-compatible weapons. The painted mushroom joints on his wrists can make his hands difficult to turn. Despite his high level of articulation, the range of movement in his hips is limited by the sculpting of the sides of his pelvis.
Scourge also features a second vehicle mode configuration in his instructions to replicate the occasional moments in the movie and the cartoon where his head would be visible in vehicle mode. To achieve this, his whole vehicle mode shell needs to be opened; the armature that his head assembly is on needs to be extended up, and as you bring the shell halves back together, the back panel attached to the head assembly tabs into both of his ”engines.” As an additional feature, one can also fold the faux engine piece on the back of his head down to give him neck articulation.
Like the other Studio Series toys, the interior of the package forms a display background for the toy. In this case, it is the scrolling energy grid from when Unicron reformats Thundercracker into Scourge, complete with mid-reformatting Kickback and Shrapnel drawn in.
If one chooses, Scourge can use the Battle Master Fracas from the Siege Decepticon Phantomstrike Squadron set, though there is no possible way to accommodate his vehicle mode.
This mold was slightly retooled into Sweep (which by contrast was decoed after Scourge’s original toy), and more substantially retooled into Transformers: Legacy A Hero Is Born Alpha Trion. His hands were used for Collaborative Draculus.
