Xena hears that the massive Persian army has come ashore, lain waste to the troops in Marathon, and is now heading their way. She tells Gabrielle that the Persian army is unparalleled in its ruthlessness; if the soldiers reach Athens, Greece will be lost.
In a skirmish with the Persians, Gabrielle is shot in the shoulder by a poisonous arrow. Though Xena wants to get her companion to a healer, Gabrielle tells her that the Warrior Princess is the last hope against the invaders. Xena reluctantly agrees. In an abandoned long house, Xena makes her stand against the Persians while Gabrielle hovers at death’s door.
During the battle, the Warrior Princess pierces one of the attackers with a poisonous arrow. When the wounded Persian takes a swig from a waterbag and pours the rest of the liquid over his would, she realizes he has an antidote. Xena grabs the bag and begins fighting off the soldiers with renewed vigor. Once she has defeated the entire force, she brings the antidote to Gabrielle, saving her with only moments to spare.
