Seaspray was re-released in Generation 2, with his blue plastics now covered in dark blue chrome, though some samples have been found with purple chrome. A black box with ”AUTOBOT” and the Generation 2 Autobot symbol has also been added to his right leg.
A rare variant exists that may have been a test shot run. These figures were apparently given out internally by Hasbro as Christmas ornaments, as they have been found bagged with a string attached and a card reading ”Transformers Christmas ornament” on one side and ”Merry Christmas from the Boys’ Toys Marketing” on the other. The same treatment has been seen with a variant Generation 2 Beachcomber.
