Title:
K 9
Description:
K-9 (Deluxe, 1997)
Accessories: Snare gun/tail, shield/back, 2 missiles
Part of the fourth wave of year-two Beast Wars Deluxes, K-9 is an extensive retooling of Wolfang, transforming into a German Shepherd. Almost all of his parts have been given new molding, often becoming larger, making him somewhat more massive than his predecessor. The only part of his body not changed is his robot head sculpt.
Despite the cosmetic changes, K-9 essentially works exactly the same as Wolfang, with very little change to the play value. In robot mode, his dog mode’s back becomes a hand-held riot shield, and his tail becomes a spring-loaded missile launcher; two anchor-shaped missiles are stored in K-9’s midsection. As with all first-year Beast Wars toy mold at the Deluxe class and up, he has both a normal robot mode head and a mutant head: in his case, the mutant head is a visor-like mask that flips up and down over his robot face.
This toy was released in Japan as an import with a Takara-applied sticker. This molding was used to make Beast Wars II Max-B. The original Wolfang tooling was also used to make the Beast Wars Telemocha Predacon Wolfang (pronounced "vol-fang”).
