Title:
Megatron Aligator
Description:
Optimus Primal VS Megatron! (Basic Class 2-pack, 1996/1997)
Takara ID number: VS-6
Accessories: Gun/tail
The initial version of Beast Wars Megatron transforms into a green alligator. The toy is a retool of Iguanus with new alligator and robot heads, and no frill. The screw hole for the frill bracket remains. Both toys were released at roughly the same time.
This toy came in a two-pack with the bat-mode Optimus Primal. In Hasbro markets, this duo came with a Beast Wars mini-comic. The Japanese release of the two-pack, dubbed "Amazon Showdown: Convobat VS Megalligator” (アマゾンの対決, Amazon no taiketsu), lacks the comic, but does come with individual character bio cards.
Whether this toy can be considered the Beast Wars Megatron character as seen in the primary fiction is a matter of debate. Released before the beginning of the animated series, which established Megatron as a separate entity from Generation 1 Megatron, the accompanying profiles and mini-comic imply the Beast Wars to be a direct progression of the Autobot/Decepticon war.
This mold was additionally used to make the purple-recolored Megalligator (indicated to be Generation 1 Megatron), released individually to be his own character Megalligator and was proposed for Albitron, which never reached fruition. The Iguanus version was used for Crazybolt.
