Title:
Insecticon
Description:
Insecticon (Basic, 1996/1998)
Takara ID number: D-10
Accessories: 2-part crossbow
Part of the second (and final) wave of Hasbro’s first-year Beast Wars Basics, Insecticon transforms into a sparkly-blue and green organic stag beetle. His pincers can open and close somewhat, plus his elytra can be flipped open to reveal two halves of his weapon, which form jet thrusters for beast-mode flying. Neat! His transformation to robot mode is a spring-loaded one-step process, activated by pushing down on his beast-mode head. In robot mode, the two jet thruster pieces fit together to form a crossbow weapon. It doesn’t fire anything, but it still looks really cool.
The Takara version of the toy, sold in the line’s fifth wave as "Kuwagiger” in January 1998, has no functional differences from the Hasbro version aside from packaging.
