Title:

Trainbot Shouki (MPG-01)

Description:
Trainbot Shouki (June 25, 2022)
ID number: MPG-01

Accessories: Gun, 2 seats, rail A, rail B, Raiden chest part, joint part

Previously teased on the ”A Railway Story In The Sky” exhibition on December 3, 2019 and later confirmed in a magazine interview with designer Kōjin Ōno in the March 2021 issue of Figure Ō, Shouki is the first release in the Masterpiece G Series. Produced in collaboration with TOMIX, the train department of TakaraTomy’s scale model oriented subsidiary Tomytec, the figure converts into a fully HO scale compatible incarnation of his classic Shinkansen train mode. Shouki’s third mode forms the upper torso of the historic first Masterpiece combiner in the form of a new incarnation of Raiden.

Shouki includes seat parts scaled to fit two figures in his front cabin, both Masterpiece human figures or- in a cheeky reference to the Trainbots’ significantly higher profile in the pre-Transformer Diaclone toyline- pilots from the 2016 Diaclone toyline via a pair of flip down ”booster seats.” The figure includes Raiden’s chest plate for torso mode, which can store in his front cabin in both train and robot mode (and during the conversion, if you’re feeling ambitious) or be used as a shield. Shouki’s gun can be stowed in his right calf in robot mode and in his undercarriage in train mode.

Lastly, the figure includes two modular railway sections slated to combine with segments included with the other Trainbots a la the team’s original Diaclone plastic tracks. This track can be converted into a base for a stand armature (sold separately), and an adapter is included for display as either a ”flying train” (a staple of the Headmasters cartoon) or a dismembered torso display while you wait for the rest of the combiner. Morbid!
Optional Generation 1 toy-accurate stickers for Raiden’s chest plate were released by TakaraTomy as a promotion in Figure Ō’s July 2022 issue.

Notes:

Though it is a little tricky to tell the true meaning of Shouki’s name since it is ”spelled” in phonetic katakana rather than kanji (鍾馗), it most likely comes from a mythological figure or a type of Japanese WWII fighter plane. Ask Vector Prime would make reference to the latter in detailing the Trainbots’ origin. Shouki also means ”sanity” (正気), a pun occasionally used for jokes in fiction.
Shouki had the preliminary name of Mach (マッハ Mahha), which was likely taken from the occasional identification of the Diaclone toy as ”Machliner” (マッハライナー Mahharainā).

Shouki appears as part of the Trainbots’ combined train form in the title sequence of the Super-God Masterforce cartoon, but not in the series itself. The series creators seem to have intended to use the Robot Train to travel back and forth to Athenia, more closely tying Super-God Masterforce to previous Transformers series, but the idea was quietly dropped. They did, however, appear for that purpose in the manga.

Kreon Shouki wears the Ironhide helmet and Starscream wing-backpack.

Shouki’s Masterpiece toy recieved an Excellence Award in the ”High Target” (read: collector) Toy category at the 2022 Japan Toy Awards.
