Title:
Ironhide
Description:
Ironhide (Deluxe Class, 2019)
Hasbro ID number: WFC-S21
TakaraTomy ID number: SG-17
TakaraTomy release date: April 27, 2019
Hidden message code: TRITHYLLIUM
Accessories: ”W-35 LR Doomblast Forge Launcher”
Part of the second wave of Siege Deluxe Class figures, Ironhide transforms from robot to Cybertronian van and back. His vehicle mode takes several design cues from Titans Return Sergeant Kup, though it shares no parts or engineering with the mold. In keeping with the War For Cybertron trilogy’s concerns with scale, Ironhide is a full head taller than most of his Deluxe-priced mates. He includes a gigantic missile launcher cannon called the ”W-35 LR Doomblast Forge Launcher,” compatible with the C.O.M.B.A.T. System, that can also convert into an equally gigantic hammer. As with all non-gimmick Siege figures, Ironhide features ”battle damage” paint applications on his lower shins, feet, and weapon. He also features multiple hardpoints all over himself and his weapons to accommodate ”Fire Blasts” from the Battle Masters assortment, which can be used to simulate blaster fire or explosions.
Ironhide suffers from a production flaw that causes the molded hinges on his legs to be too small to properly house the side panels from his vehicle mode, causing them to pop off at the slightest pressure. This can be resolved by removing the panels and using a small screwdriver to carefully widen the pegholes, which creates enough clearance to properly house the panels within the hinges.
Ironhide was redecoed into Deseeus Army Drone, given a new head as Crosshairs, and retooled into Ratchet. The mold was also extensively retooled into Earthrise Ironhide.
Like The Last Knight, Power of the Primes, and Studio Series, TakaraTomy’s Transformers Siege (トランスフォーマー シージ) toyline sees their new ”brand unification” strategy in full effect. As such, Takara Siege toys are completely identical to their Hasbro counterparts, just released in different waves and given new ”ID” numbers.
Bizarrely, the official stock photos for several figures, such as Brunt, depict them in slightly different colors, but the final toys are virtually indistingushable form the Hasbro versions.
