”15th Anniversary” Optimus Prime is a redeco of the second Studio Series figure, featuring slightly minimized/altered paint applications and plastic color changes. Aside from that, he doesn’t come with the Ion blaster included with the regular release and instead comes with the two swords included with the original Revenge of the Fallen version of the mold, cast in a slightly more reddish clear orange and painted a brighter silver instead of gunmetal. In terms of deco, Optimus’s metallic gray plastic is replaced with a light shade of grayish silver, the paint operations on his forearms and lower legs are omitted, and the previously-colorless plastic used on the real/faux truck windows are now translucent black. The new blue paint used for most of the torso/truck cab is a noticeably different shade compared to the blue plastic, whereas the blue paint on the original release was a much closer match to the plastic.
Interestingly, the robot mode stock render and photo show Optimus wielding his swords with the blades on the inside of the arms instead of the outside. Unlike the original SS-32 release, this release comes with the securely pinned back hinges used for the Leader Class figure. There has been one instance of yellowing on the grey plastic used, but it is not known if it is a widespread issue or an isolated instance. As with previous versions of this mold, the tabs that hold the front grill together in truck mode have the potential to break.
”15th Anniversary” Ironhide is a redeco of the first Studio Series figure, featuring slightly altered paint applications and plastic color changes compared to the original toy. His knees, shoulders, and inner torso have been cast in gray plastic, while his windows are now a more opaque black translucent plastic. The faux bumper on his chest and the rear vehicle mode bumper are painted gray, while his toes, headlights, and circular shoulder details are now completely painted in silver. Meanwhile, paint applications on his cannons, knees, roof lights, cheeks, head crest, and his right eye have been omitted. His left shoulder is also missing an Autobot tampograph.
15th Anniversary” Bumblebee is a redeco/retool of the 2007 movie Studio Series figure, featuring altered paint applications and plastic color changes. He utilizes the unmasked head from the Dark of the Moon version of the toy above, this time with the Autobot tampograph added, as well as the racing stripes from the Revenge of the Fallen version. On this version, the black plastic has been replaced with light gray, the yellow and dark gray plastics are lighter, and the windows/doors are a much darker translucent black. The the gunmetal paint operations and headlights are now silver. Notably, paint applications were removed from his feet, faux chest, arm guards, and most of his shoulders.
Some owners have noted that this version has much looser joints, especially in the legs, possibly from mold degradation. Like the DOTM version, stock photos and renders for this Bumblebee leave the secondary wings untransformed.
”15th Anniversary” Autobot Jazz is a redeco of the figure above, featuring slightly minimized/altered paint applications compared to the first toy, in order to more closely resemble his on-screen appearance. In terms of deco, this Jazz uses darker silver paint and plastic, darker blue translucent plastic, the bronze-ish paint used for the Crescent Cannon’s muzzle and shins are replaced with a bright yellow-gold, the black on the vehicle mode’s side vents are omitted, and the foglights are now painted silver instead of the metallic blue seen on the original. Jazz’s new stock photos still feature the same goofs as before.
”15th Anniversary” Autobot Ratchet is a redeco of the first Studio Series figure, featuring slightly improved paint applications and plastic color changes compared to the first release of the toy. Ratchet’s windshield and doors are now an inaccurate transluscent black, his gray plastic is a few shades lighter, and he sports a much more accurate yellow-green color, even moreso than the Premium Finish version.
In terms of deco changes, Ratchet’s face is properly painted this time, his vehicle lights and wheel rims are painted silver, there’s gunmetal on the rear bumper, more black on his robot chest, and the windshield has a green trim instead of the original black. The red stripes across the sides of his vehicle mode have been replaced with the Premium Finish version, but no other new tampographs were carried over. Additionally, paint has been removed from his rear windows, indicator lights, robot shoulder lights, and most of his waist.
These figures come in an Amazon exclusive 5-pack, including Studio Series Optimus Prime, Ratchet, Bumblebee, Ironhide and Jazz, released to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the first live-action Transformers film. The pack comes with a unique reversible backdrop depicting the alley where the Autobots first met Sam on one side and the exterior of Sam’s house on the other.
