35 years since his previous toy, Pointblank returns in the third wave of Legacy Deluxe Class figures. He is designed to more closely match his appearance in "The Rebirth” than his actual character model (a design priority shared with fellow Targetmaster Crosshairs.) He transforms into a Cybertronian car in 17 steps.
Pointblank includes Peacemaker as a Targetmaster, featuring a newer, simplified mold compared to the previous Legends and Battle Master molds, that transforms in 2 steps. As all figures involved share the 5mm peg standard, Peacemaker can be swapped with his slightly more articulated Legends iteration.
Unusually for a modern Generations Deluxe, and perhaps owing to his transformation scheme and the inclusion of Peacemaker, Pointblank lacks bicep swivels. However, he does feature a rotation joint at the forearm to aid in posing.
In his design notes, Mark Maher revealed that Pointblank was originally intended to have a removable engine/gun, similar to the G1 toy’s engine/shield. Unfortunately this was dropped as part of several design changes that needed to be made when the original plan for the figure proved too costly. The engine detailing still exists on the final figure, but it is not a removable accessory. Other cost reductions include cutting out plastic on the legs, removing wrist articulation (something that the G1 toy had),and having the back reworked.
While initially announced under the name "Blanker” at San Diego Comic Con 2022, it eventually turned out that Hasbro had been able to secure the trademark for the character’s original name after all when packaging stock photos were revealed a mere month later.
