Andre the Giant returned to WWE in 1987 with his eye on the WWE Championship, and a willingness to do anything to win it. But one thing stood in his way - longtime friend and WWE Champion Hulk Hogan. Andre, undefeated in his 15-year career, turned on Hogan and enlisted Hulk’s longtime nemesis, Bobby “The Brain” Heenan, to be his manager. At WrestleMania III in front a record 93,173 fans, the two squared off in arguably the biggest match of all time. Andre nearly pinned Hogan in the match’s opening seconds after a failed bodyslam attempt, and dominated most of the match. But as he did countless times before, Hogan tapped into the power of his Hulkamaniacs to seemingly do the impossible. He slammed the allegedly invincible Andre and delivered his patented leg drop to hand the Giant his first-ever loss.
