Walmart once again reissued the original Starscream toy in 2023 under the Transformers Retro label. Unlike the Vintage G1 release, however, Retro Starscream has been redecoed in colors inspired by his appearance in the original Transformers animated series, more specifically The Transformers: The Movie. He remains a mash-up of the Commemorative Series and The Transformers Collection reissues, with the former’s elongated null rays and cluster bombs and the latter’s gun mode Megatron accessory.
While Starscream’s box retains the form factor of the original G1 release’s box, Hasbro’s plastic-free packaging initiative means that it lacks a window and is otherwise styled differently. Instead, the box features original art by Marcelo Matere[5] of Starscream with Earthrise inspired detailing in robot and vehicle mode laid over a scene of Autobot City.
Transformers Retro Starscream was announced and went up for preorder on October 6, 2022 as part of Walmart’s Collector Con event.
