Title:
Dinobot Sludge
Description:
Dinobot Sludge (Core Class, 2023)
1 of 6: Volcanicus
TakaraTomy ID number: TL-28
Known designers: Evan Brooks (Hasbro), Shuhei Umezu and Shogo Hasui (TakaraTomy)
Part of the first wave of Legacy: Evolution Core Class toys, ”Dinobot Sludge” is a smaller version of the Brontosaurus Dinobot. Sludge is also notable in being part of the first Core Class combiner: forming the lower half of the torso for Volcanicus, akin to Dinoking’s Rairyu. As a result of forming a combiner part on such a small scale, he comes with noticeable kibble; his rear dino mode legs hang off his robot mode legs, with the molded robot thighs and the lower legs’ articulation being compromised by them. In a rarity for a modern figure, he doesn’t come with any accessories. Instead, his dino mode head comes as a separate piece in the packaging and must be clipped on manually.
In an apparent design flaw, the two sides of Sludge’s dinosaur snout do not match each other, with very different half-sets of sculpted detailing separated by a prominent seam.
