Title:

Bumblebee Battle Blade

Description:
Battle Blade Bumblebee (Deluxe, 2010)

TakaraTomy ID number: AA-02

This entirely new Deluxe Class Bumblebee figure for the 2010 Transformers toy line features a much more accurate and articulated sculpt in robot mode compared to previous versions of Deluxe class Camaro Concept Bumblebee, with the transformation scheme taking many cues from Revenge of the Fallen Human Alliance Bumblebee, scaled down to Deluxe size, while using an Automorph design for the leg transformation directly based on the original Deluxe Class Concept Camaro Bumblebee. Despite the very similar looks, Battle Blade Bumblebee uses no parts from previous toys; everything about him is an entirely new sculpt. Due to his robot mode height, he stands nearly taller than Battle Blade Optimus Prime.
His right hand can be switched out for his cannon by opening the arm guard, flipping out the cannon barrel, folding away the right hand and folding the cannon over to the wrist. Due to how the parts were distributed on the plastic sprues during production, the cannon barrel is yellow rather than grey. The left arm-guard has a flip-out axe made of translucent blue plastic, representing the axe weapon Bumblebee uses in the Revenge of the Fallen video games, which itself may have been based upon the electrical stinger that was once considered as a melee weapon for Bumblebee in the first movie. The axe is spring-loaded, activated by a button on his arm-guard. This version of Movie Bumblebee also features a flip-down battle mask, very similar to Human Alliance Bumblebee. In other words, pure premium awesome-sauce.
His head has a tendency to pop off during transformation. The space at the front of the collar would give him just enough clearance to pass his head through... if it was not for the small plastic flap (the one with the Autobot symbol) on his chest, which tends to push and squeeze the head out enough that the tension causes the head to pop and fly out from his ball-jointed neck.
Stock photos show that the axe was originally made in such a way that the blade was mounted on a rod and could be rotated downwards, but this was changed entirely for unknown reasons (possibly fragility). As a result, the blade is mounted upside-down.
The Japanese Autobot Alliance release features marginally darker yellow plastic and paint.
