Title:
Dragstrip Menasor Stunticon 1/5
Description:
Decepticon Dragstrip (Deluxe Class, 2015)
1 of 5: Menasor
Accessories: sword, gun/fist/foot
Known designers: John Warden (Hasbro)
"Dragstrip” is part of wave one of the Combiner Wars Deluxe Class toys and transforms from an Indianapolis-style racer to robot and back! He can also transform into a limb for any Combiner Wars-style Voyager Class figure or form one of Legends Godbomber’s legs but is, of course, intended to be combined with Motormaster, Breakdown, Dead End, Offroad, and Blackjack to create Menasor. He is also officially associated with Galvatronus, Ultra Prime, and Scourge Grand Prime as well as being used with Superion due to Air Raid not being part of wave one. Dragstrip comes with a collector card featuring art from the episode "The Thin Blue Line” of Transformers Legends.
While the instructions have the spoiler in the proper position for the leg mode, they never actually show it pivoting up. Missing this step will result in a combiner with one leg slightly longer than the other, which will result in a lopsided stature unless another deluxe combiner with a spoiler-mounted peghole (such as Breakdown) is used as the other leg. Bear in mind the photo to the right shows the leg incorrectly transformed with the spoiler still down.
Dragstrip’s included dagger includes a diagonally-oriented 5mm peg that seemingly serves no purpose, as although he can hold it with the peg, the angle it is molded at causes it to collide with his forearm, and so the peg doesn’t go in very far at all. The dagger also has no unobstructive place to mount while Dragstrip is in vehicle mode, causing it to protrude outwards from the vehicle no matter where it attaches.
As a part of the first and second wave promotion in Hasbro’s Asian markets, a free sticker sheet for the Aerialbots and Stunticons was given out when purchasing any four Deluxe Class toys from those waves. As such, Dragstrip was given Generation 1 toy-esque stickers for the owner to apply if they wanted.[6]
Though designated for release in the first quarter of 2015, Dragstrip’s wave reached U.S. store shelves in late 2014.
This mold was retooled into Mirage. Two years later, the mold’s wheels and Combiner joint would be reused for Power of the Primes Jazz.
