Part of the first wave of Siege Voyager Class figures, Optimus Prime transforms from robot to short-smokestacked Cybertronian armored truck and back. For an inexpensive mass-retail release, Optimus’s robot mode is very accurate to his design from the original cartoon (albeit with added details) and also features excellent poseability on par with a Masterpiece toy, resulting in a version of the character that gives collectors lots of bang for their buck. He includes two weapons compatible with the C.O.M.B.A.T. System—the ”W-50 Dual-Mech Energon Strikeshield,” which is an axe that transforms into a shield, and the ”W-M3 RF Ion Blaster.” Both weapons can combine to form the ”Sentrystrike Ultra-Blaster.” An argument could be made that being able to flip around Optimus’s underarm kibble to form underslung gatling guns is an undocumented gimmick. Optimus Prime also features ”battle damage” paint applications on several parts of his body, as well as multiple hardpoints all over himself and his weapons to accommodate ”Fire Blasts” from the Battle Masters assortment, which can be used to simulate blaster fire or explosions.

In vehicle mode, opening the figure’s windows shows the Matrix of Leadership molded into the plastic behind the windows. Due to the transformation, the Matrix doesn’t end up in the chest in robot mode. Despite being a Voyager-scale figure, the truck mode is considerably small, in scale with a Legends-sized figure. Whether through coincidence or design, it’s possible to fit a Power of the Primes Matrix core (and by extension, a Prime Master or Titan Master) in his chest.

An additional, undocumented but confirmed third ”hover truck” mode exists, which is achieved by folding all of his wheels under his vehicle mode. While the back wheels don’t lock in anywhere, the two front wheels actually have small tabs that plug into slots on the back of the wheel sections that aren’t used for either of his other modes.

There is a message written in Cybertronian letters on Optimus Prime’s box art, which reads ”LIGHT THE DARKEST HOUR.”

While Optimus greatly resembles the inner robot of Siege Ultra Magnus, he is actually a completely different mold and therefore not compatible with the Magnus Armor. This mold was later used to make Nemesis Prime. A large number of parts of this figure were reused for the Earthrise Optimus Prime figure released in 2020. Due to this, the trailer packaged with the Earthrise figure is fully compatible with the Siege figure’s truck mode.

Care should be taken not to pull the waist transformation hinge too far back or else the partially open clip housing the pin may break. Depending on the individual quality control, the roof panel (notably the rear right side) may not shut properly in vehicle mode.

While Hasbro and TakaraTomy’s releases of the toy are almost identical, the battle damage paint apps on the latter’s shoulders and legs are slightly altered in size.

Though designated for release in the first quarter of 2019, Optimus’s wave reached U.S. store shelves in late 2018.
