Margie was content to leave the crafting of a new kind of bourbon to her husband Bill, but she knew a bold statement on packaging would be just as critical to their success. It started with the name; as an avid collector of English pewter, she had observed that the finest pieces were always stamped by their creators with ”the maker’s mark.” She also designed this uniquely wide-shouldered bottle and selected a cream paper label to reflect the handmade craftsmanship.
Margie then insisted that every bottle of Maker’s Mark be hand-dipped in red wax. Although inefficient, she believed it perfectly reflected the handmade bourbon inside. And just like the whisky, we haven’t changed a thing about it since the beginning. We think she’d be
pleased about that.
