Title:
Rey Campero Tepextate Mezcal
Description:
Destileria Herencia de Sanchez NOM-O185X
Rey Campero Tepextate is made from wild Tepextate that has matured 15-18 years before harvest. After roasting and crushing, it is fermented with wild yeast in the open air before double distillation and bottling. Rey Campero has a strong commitment to local sustainability. For each maguey harvested for their Mezcal, others are planted. They do this with all of their agave, but it is particularly important for the Tepextate populations given the time needed for each Tepextate plant to reach maturity.
An artisanal joven mezcal from Rey Campero that is made using wild Tepextate agave and produced using traditional methods. The palate is lively and floral, with notes of orange zest, pineapple, lavender and violets, complemented by warming chilli spice and smoked black pepper lingering in the finish.
Tasting Notes
The Tepeztate mezcal boasts a complex aroma that is both inviting and characteristic of the Tepeztate variety. Notes of green bell pepper and jalapeño are prominent, with a subtle hint of mint adding an extra layer of complexity.
The flavor profile is well-balanced, with mint as the dominant note complemented by adding jalapeño on the mid-palette.
A black pepper note marks the finish, and the overall experience is enjoyable.
