ROYAL LOCHNAGAR 16y 2021 Special Release Single Malt Scotch Whisky

A refined example of Royal Lochnagar, somewhat shy on the nose yet full of character in the mouth. Easy to enjoy, especially as an apéritif. On the palate, this is a lithe, vital Royal Lochnagar with all the nimble freshness of spring and sunshine in its really appealing texture and taste.

Nose

The very mellow and rounded nose swirls with subtle aromas. The top notes are lightly fruity, suggesting orange zest and green apple. They are encased after a while, in a hint of puff-pastry, all resting on a mossy and lightly woody base. Adding a splash of water adds to the fruit, now firm white grapes, and brings up the spiciness

This is a 16 year old single malt Scotch whisky from Royal Lochnagar, presented as part of Diageo’s 2021 Special Releases. It brings together whisky matured in American oak and European oak refill casks, resulting in an expression that shows off a fresh, vibrant flavour profile. The theme for the 2021 Special Releases is ’Legends Untold’, inspired by stories surrounding the distilleries features. As such, the label of this one has a particularly fierce-looking horse upon it.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose Creamy nose, touch of toffee, touch of brioche, touch of vanilla and some apple.

Palate A little chilli and then warm baking spices, cooked apple like a tart tatin, creamy texture.

Finish Some spice on finish, creaminess persists. Quite short.
