Title:
PORT ASKAIG 8y Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Description:
You will never know for sure which Islay single malt whisky a Port Askaig is, but with this 8-year-old dram you can taste that it is an Islay-peated whisky immediately. Despite its youth, it is quite complex, but very pleasant to drink. Bottled at 45.8%.

Port Askaig’s range of Islay Single Malts achieves the perfect balance of sweet fruity flavours and smoky, peaty character. Through the warmth and flavour of the whisky, and the style of the presentation, Port Askaig embodies the unique spirit of Islay and its people.
NOSE
Zesty and smoky, with freshly peeled lemon rind and coal smoke straight off the bat. Behind that are youthful touches – orchard fruit, freshly milled grain and the aroma of a warm malting floor.
PALATE
Minerally and austere initially, with limestone and coal fires slowly giving way to richer notes of dark, earthy peat. Sweet vegetal notes of sugar snap peas are lifted by floral honeysuckle and a background notes of liquorice sweetness.
FINISH
Fresh and zesty, with salt, pepper, and lingering lemon as the smoke fades.
COMMENT
A well-balanced combination of youthful spirit character and more mature flavours. An aperitif whisky, with more smoky character than you might expect from its age.

Specialty Drinks, an independent bottler that sources single malt from an undisclosed distillery in Islay to bottle under the Port Askaig label.
The Port Askaig range launched in 2009 with three expressions (Cask Strength, 17 and 25 year old). All three were strongly rumoured to hail from Caol Ila.
Over the past near-decade the brand has steadily expanded, covering a variety of age statements (8 up to 45), higher ABVs and single cask releases.
But, it would be wrong to assume that the liquid contents have remained identical throughout.
This peaty expression, at 8 years old, is the youngest in their lineup and is bottled at 45.8% ABV.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Zesty lemon, smoke, and iodine notes at first sniff, followed by buttery vanilla and cut grass.
Palate: The palate is surprisingly sweet with caramel paste, honey-glazed barbecued bacon slices, lemongrass and charcoal.
Finish: The finish is a bit spicier.
