Title:
Charles Manson’s Death Shroud (19 November 2017)
Description:
So........ here is a dark piece of “memorabilia which arrived in the post a couple of days ago. Charles Manson, criminal, con man, manipulator, cult leader and alleged mass murderer / serial killer, died on the 19th November 2017. For 4 months, his body lay in the County Morgue while his “friends” and family argued legally for possession of his estate and body. During those 4 months, Manson lay there with a simple sheet over him. On the 12th of March 2018, Charles Manson’s grandson, Jason Freeman, won custody over Charles Manson’s estate and body. Jason cut up the sheet into 100 pieces. I have Number 92.
There is no question that he was an evil man, but he was also one of the most infamous people of the 20th Century.
Where Woodstock was seen as the pinnacle of love and peace for the 60’s generation, the events on the night of the 8th of August 1969 at Cielo Drive and Waverly Drive the next night brought it all crashing down.
The hippy generation, with their peace and love, would forever more be associated with cults and mistrust.
Five people were killed at the house on Cielo Drive. Sharon Tate, the pregnant actress and wife to film director Roman Polanski, hairdresser to the stars Jay Sebring, coffee mogul Abigail Folger, Wojciech Frykowski, and Steven Parent. The next night, Manson’s followers went to the home of supermarket executive Leno LaBianca and his wife, Rosemary, a dress shop co-owner, and killed them on instruction by Manson.
Manson’s influence reached as far as The Beatles and as close as The Beach Boys. Manson lived with Dennis Wilson and has one of his songs recorded by The Beach Boys. Recently his music has been recorded by Guns n Roses, The Lemonheads, and Marilyn Manson (who claimed the stage name for the two people he saw influencing the 1960’s - The love of Marilyn Monroe and the evil of Charles Manson).
Neil Young, who met Manson a couple of times, called him a living poet.
In the 1990’s, Trent Reznor, from the group Nine Inch Nails, bought the house on Cielo Drive and completed the NIN breakout album “The Downward Spiral”.
He has been written in countless books, movies and television shows have been centred around him and the actions he started, and his likeness has even appeared in a “South Park” episode.
To repeat, he was an evil man, but he was also one of the most infamous people of the 20th Century.
