Title:
Departure Of HMS Renown
Description:
Signed by the artist in the lower left margin. This etching shows the battlecruiser ’Renown’ (1916) in broad starboard-bow view, as she pulls away from South Railway Jetty in Portsmouth Harbour on 16 March 1920, with HRH The Prince of Wales on board for his 1920 tour of the United States, Australia and New Zealand via the Panama Canal. Wyllie also did an oil painting of the subject from a viewpoint ahead of ’Renown’ which is now in the Royal Naval museum at Portsmouth. On the left is the ’Victory’ (1765) dressed overall and firing a salute. The submarine at moorings in the foreground is a former German vessel of the UB-III type
