Title:

Walt Disney’s Woodland Café Grasshopper Animation Drawing Group of 3 (Walt Disney, 1937).

Description:
Woodland Café Grasshopper Animation Drawing Group of 3 (Walt Disney, 1937). The grasshopper jazz band is making music in this lot!
The three 12 field 5-peghole animation drawings were created for the latter portion of the Woodland Café, found at about 6:03, 6:24, and 6:54 respectively. They feature the conductor, a saxophone player, and a saxophone trio from when they dazzle the crowd with ”Truckin”, a song originally performed by Ted Kohler and Rube Bloom in 1935. Parts of the sequence were often cut from airings of the short on programs like The Ink and Paint Club due to the grasshopper band’s similarities to some African American stereotypes. All of the drawings are nearly full figure and range from approximately 4”’ x 5” to 5.5”’ x 4.5”’. The lot is a fantastic look at these characters and a sequence that often isn’t shown in its entirety. The drawings from the Silly Symphony are marked 38, 247, and 21 in the lower right corner and are in Very Good condition overall with light edge and handling wear, faint age-related toning, and light superficial wrinkles on one page.
