Title:
Interceptor
Description:
The Supreme Court Judge is plotting against democracy with his accomplice, the Minister of Justice. To accomplish their goal, they have to exchange messages and transfer kickback money without being detected. Trying to prevent the corruption scheme, by revealing it on the international media, there’s the world famous investigative journalists. However, the interceptors can only monitor one suspicious activity at a time, be it transferring secret letters or transferring kickback money.
The goal is to find out the opponent’s codes or leave at least one of them without cards on their hands.
Winner of the first 18 Card Challenge - Design a game with 18 identical cards.
Interceptor won Button Shy’s very first 18 card challenge: Make an 18 card game where every single card is identical. This was a ridiculous challenge, basically asking designers to do the impossible. Or at least, the improbable. Interceptor beat out 228 other games because of two things.
The game is an absolute blast.
The game wasn’t held back by the identical cards. It thrives because of the identical cards.
Each card has two ends: money or messages. Before the game, teams are formed and the players will come up with a code for each of these. Money might be a wink. Messages might be a yawn. (you’ll quickly find out those are WAY TOO OBVIOUS). Then players must place one of their cards with one side forward and try to get their partner to place the same side forward. Politicians will try to avoid investigations by placing the opposite side that their opponents play, while matching each other. Investigators want to match the politicians AND match each other.
As players try to pull off their codes without giving them away to their opponents, the heart of the game emerges. It’s sneaky, yet playful, and creates some of the most memorable moments of the game night.
