Players take the role of rival admirals commanding crews of colorful characters, selecting crew members simultaneously each day to land on islands, claim loot, and time character abilities across day/dusk/night phases. The updated edition features all-new art, 40 characters per player, a reputation system for tiebreakers, deluxe loot tokens, and a robust solo Automa mode for 1-player games. Typical play length is 45–60 minutes and it supports 1–6 players.
