Synopsis:
Romeo and Juliet is William Shakespeare’s tragic drama about two young lovers from feuding families in Verona, the Montagues and the Capulets. When Romeo Montague crashes a Capulet ball, he meets Juliet and the two fall instantly and deeply in love. Secretly married by Friar Laurence in the hope that their union will end the long-running feud, the couple are instead caught in a spiral of violence, misunderstanding, and fate. Romeo kills Juliet’s cousin Tybalt in a duel and is banished, while Juliet is forced toward an arranged marriage with Paris. A desperate plan to reunite the lovers through a sleeping potion goes catastrophically wrong, leading Romeo to believe Juliet is dead and to take his own life beside her. On waking and finding Romeo dead, Juliet kills herself as well. Their deaths finally shock the Montagues and Capulets into ending their bitter conflict, leaving the city of Verona to mourn the price of hatred and the fleeting intensity of youthful love.
