Synopsis:
This book was actually written by Joyce Maxtone Graham. It became the biggest box-office success of the 1940s except for ’Gone With the Wind.’ The book took a total of 12 Oscars and was described by Winston Churchill as having been more valuable to the war effort than 6 divisions. William Wyler acknowledged he had turned it into a propaganda film aimed at bringing America into the War. Film featured Walter Pidgeon and Greer Garson (who not only won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role, but also married Richard Ney, who played her son in the film!). The film was also awarded Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actress (Teresa Wright) and Best Screenplay (several, including James Hilton).
