Synopsis:
Kawashima Masayuki is a seemingly successful Tokyo graphic designer living with his loving wife, Yoko, and their baby daughter, Rie. Outwardly, their life looks contented and ordinary. Yet every night, after his wife falls asleep, Kawashima creeps from their bed to stand over his baby’s crib with an ice pick in his hand, overwhelmed by an almost uncontrollable urge to stab her. Terrified that he may one day give in to this murderous impulse, he decides to confront his inner demons by redirecting his violent desire. He meticulously plans to kill a young prostitute instead, believing that this single calculated act will purge his compulsions and keep his family safe. But the woman he chooses, Chiaki, is as damaged and disturbed as he is, and their encounter spirals into a tense, vicious game of psychological cat-and-mouse. As the night unfolds in a claustrophobic hotel room, Kawashima’s carefully constructed plan disintegrates, exposing traumatic memories, sadomasochistic desires, and the thin line between victim and predator. Told in a stark, economical style, ”Piercing” explores obsession, guilt, and the darkest corners of the human psyche, building inexorably toward an unsettling, violent climax.
