Synopsis:
Through the story of Meursault—an emotionally detached, ordinary man living in French Algeria—Albert Camus explores the ”absurd”: the tension between humanity’s search for meaning and an indifferent universe. After Meursault’s seemingly unpremeditated killing of an Arab man on a sunlit beach, he is arrested and put on trial. In court, the case turns as much on Meursault’s character and refusal to perform expected emotions as on the crime itself, culminating in a stark confrontation with judgment, mortality, and meaninglessness.
