Synopsis:
Griffin and Sabine: An Extraordinary Correspondence is an epistolary, fully illustrated novel that unfolds through a series of postcards and letters exchanged between two strangers. Griffin Moss is a solitary artist living in London, quietly producing imaginative postcards while leading an otherwise ordered, somewhat lonely life. One day he receives a startling postcard from a mysterious woman named Sabine living on a distant tropical island. Sabine not only knows his name and address, but also seems to have intimate knowledge of the images he is currently painting—despite the fact that they have never met.
As Griffin responds, an intense, uncanny relationship develops entirely through the mail. The reader physically lifts letters from envelopes and turns over richly decorated postcards, experiencing the correspondence as if secretly reading someone else’s private mail. Through their written exchanges, Griffin and Sabine question how they are connected, whether their bond is magical, psychic, or delusional, and what it means for their sense of reality. The visual art, stamps, and handwritten texts combine to create a dreamlike, romantic, and occasionally unsettling narrative in which the boundaries between imagination and truth steadily blur, leaving both the characters and the reader unsure whether this is a miraculous meeting of souls or a gradual descent into madness.
