Title:

British S.S. Gairsoppa Shipwreck Round

Description:
Sealed in Air Tite, but has milk spots...

These rounds are made from recovered sunken treasure from the S.S. Gairsoppa, raised to the surface by Odyssey Marine Exploration.
February 16, 1941, the S.S. Gairsoppa was torpedoed on February 17 by a German U-boat and sank with 85 hands lost, one sole survivor, Second Mate R.H. Ayres.
For almost 70 years the Gairsoppa sat at the bottom of the sea, nearly 3 miles deep in the Atlantic Ocean.
On September 26, 2011, Florida-based Odyssey Marine Exploration confirmed the identity and location of the Gairsoppa. Recovery began and as of July 23, 2013 a reported 61 tons of silver bullion had been recovered.
