The early Eighties gave rise to many toy lines that featured transforming robots, but arguably the most successful and longest-lived was the Transformers from Hasbro. The successful long-term rise of the “robots in disguise” is largely owed to the pairing of the toys in their early days with a wildly popular cartoon promoting them, the original 1984 animated series The Transformers.It introduced the story of the Autobots and the Decepticons, good and evil Transformers whose battle over their ancestral machine planet of Cybertron eventually came to Earth.
