Golden Eagle | 2023
Description:
Silver.9999 | Germania Mint Jelenia Góra Poland
The Malta Golden Eagle is a series of silver bullion and collector coins released annually in cooperation between the Central Bank of Malta and the Germania Mint. The coins feature a golden eagle in combat with a serpent on the obverse, and the Maltese coat of arms on the reverse. The first bullion coin was released in 2023, with 2024 seeing the release of a 1oz silver coin, a 2oz silver coin with high relief and an antique finish, and a 1kg silver coin.
The obverse of the coin features a majestic golden eagle locked in a dramatic battle with a serpent, a powerful allegory of the eternal struggle between good and evil, strength and cunning, spirit and temptation. The background depicts turbulent waves, representing the Mediterranean Sea surrounding Malta, a symbol of nature’s relentless power and motion.
On the reverse, the official coat of arms of the Central Bank of Malta is prominently displayed, encircled by an ornate wreath inspired by the interior of the Grandmaster’s Palace in Valletta. Decorative elements such as olive and palm branches symbolize peace while lilies and roses reflect majesty, purity, and spiritual harmony.
