TenTex Inc was a small minting and refining company incorporated in 1979 in Chino California, and based there until 1984. The name was an amalgamation of the birth states of the owner and his wife, ie Tennessee and Texas. The companys primary focus was minting silver rounds and bars for bullion dealers and marketing agencies across the country. It quickly gained recognition for its quality and reliability.
Among its bullion products was a set of zodiac rounds produced in 1983 as well as several silver trade rounds with common themes such as the Liberty Bell, the Eagle, Abraham Lincoln and the Panda. All were minted in 999 fine silver with the outlined T-mintmark.
In 1984, Sunshine Mining based in Kellogg Idaho acquired TenTex and shifted their operations from Chino to Coeur d’Alene Idaho, taking on the new name of Sunshine Bullion Company. This was the company that launched the famous Sunshine Silver Eagle rounds. After close to a decade, Sunshine Mining sold the minting arm back to its founders who formed another private limited company under the famous name Sunshine Minting Inc.
Obverse: The obverse depicts the ship USS Constitution with waves breaking across the bow. The ship’s name ”U.S.S. CONSTITUTION” is inscribed beneath the image. A phrase to the left along the outer rim reads ”HONEST VALUE”. It is matched by the inscription ”NEVER FAILS” located on the right.
Reverse: The central feature on the reverse is the trade scales, a common motif found on many trade unit silver rounds. Five stars flank the scales to either side. The inscription at the top reads ”THE INTERNATIONAL” and is matched by ”SILVER TRADE UNIT” centered at the bottom. The purity of ”.999 FINE” is inscribed below the top inscription. The mint mark of an outlined ”T” is located directly below the central image of the scales and directly below that is the weight of ”31.1 GRAMS”.
