The 2021 Morgan Silver Dollar 100th anniversary issue was released in five different versions, each with a low mintage limit of 175,000. The coins were struck with a composition of 99.9% fine silver, unlike the original Morgan dollars, which were 90% silver.
Mint mark and final mintage statistics
Philadelphia (no mint mark): 174,504 sold.
Philadelphia (”CC” privy mark): 173,798 sold. A privy mark was used to honor the historic Carson City Mint, which is no longer operational.
Philadelphia (”O” privy mark): 173,551 sold. A privy mark was used to honor the historic New Orleans Mint.
Denver (”D” mint mark): 174,715 sold.
San Francisco (”S” mint mark): 174,879 sold.
Issue details
Release: The U.S. Mint staggered the release of the 2021 Morgan dollars between May and August, 2021.
Demand: Due to the low mintage limits and high demand, the coins sold out quickly and created significant website traffic issues for the U.S. Mint. The initial household order limit was reduced from 25 to 10 to help address the demand.
Composition and weight: Each coin contains 0.858 troy ounces of 99.9% fine silver, an increase from the 1921 dollars, which were 0.77344 troy ounces of 90% silver.
