The coyote is a species of canine native to North America. These coyotes are found throughout the great state of Texas; however, they’re most commonly found in the open plains of the West and the brushy areas of the East. Coyotes are the smaller cousins of the wolf and are not protected by law in the state. Despite this, they are of the least concern according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
