Obverse: The obverse of Engelhard Liberty rounds shows the head of the Statue of Liberty and part of the outstretched arm. The phrase ”1888 CENTENNIAL 1986” is located to the lower right. Initials of the designer ”DE” are inscribed near the bottom right close to the outer rim.
Reverse: The central image on the reverse is an out stretched hand of the Statue of Liberty which bears the torch. Inscribed from lower left to lower right in large block letters is the phrase ”LIBERTY TRADE SILVER”. To the left of the torch the inscription ”MADE IN U.S.A.” can be found while to the right, the purity, weight, and content of ”.999 FINE SILVER ½ TROY OOINCE” is inscribed. The lower left near the outer rim contains Engelhard’s mint mark ”E”. The rounds were produced for the bullion bank for Manfra, Tordella & Brookes (MTB) and the bullion dealer’s initials mint mark ”MTB” is inscribed on the lower right near the outer rim. Immediately above those initials ”©1986” can be found.
A one-ounce version was minted in 1986 and has a reported mintage of 5,000. A quarter-ounce version was also released.
