Title:
Portugal 2 Euro national type
Description:
Bimetallic 2 euro circulation coin from Portugal. The inner golden-colored core shows a complex stylised royal seal or compass rose with decorative motifs and a central cross, surrounded by an octagonal shape evoking historic Portuguese navigational and heraldic symbols. Around the inner design, along the border of the core, are elements of the national legend including the word “REPUBLICA PORTUGUESA” rendered in an archaic script style, with small ornamental marks resembling medieval punctuation. The outer ring is silver-colored with twelve five-pointed stars evenly spaced around the circumference, representing the European Union. The reverse (common side for euro coinage, shown in the second image in a hand) bears the large numeral value “2” and the word “EURO” with a map of Europe and six vertical lines ending in stars. The edge of the coin, typical for Portuguese 2 euro pieces, combines fine reeding with incuse lettering. Overall, this is a standard Portuguese national-type 2 euro coin, not a special commemorative issue, used as regular legal‑tender currency in Portugal and across the euro area.
