United Kingdom (Great Britain) King George VI silver shilling dated 1938. Obverse: bare/uncrowned left-facing portrait of King George VI with legend around reading ”GEORGIVS VI D:G:BR:OMN:REX”. Reverse: features the Scottish creast: a crowned lion (semantic) standing atop a royal crown holdin a sword and scepter with shields on either side; date split ”19” and ”38” to either side; legend around reading ”FID DEF IND IMP” ( meaning: Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India) denomination below ”ONE SHILLING”. It was issued during the reign of King George VI and is made of 50% silver. From 1937 to 1970 the Royal Mint issued both English and Scottish shilling designs annually.
