Circulation coin: British sixpence (6d) of King George VI.

Obverse (front): Bare-headed left-facing portrait of King George VI (reign 1936 - 1952) with Latin legend reading ”GEORGIVS VI D:G:BR:OMN:REX F:D:IND:IMP” (variations exist by issue). Coin shows heavy circulation wear, oxidation/toning, and green verdigris spots.

Reverse (back): Crown above large royal monogram ”GRI” (Georgius Rex Imperator). Legend around: ”FID DEF IND IMP” (Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India) and denomination ”SIXPENCE” at bottom. Date split left/right of monogram: ”19” and ”39” (1939).

Edge: reeded/milled.

Likely standard 1938 UK silver sixpence type (0.500 silver, 2.8276 g, ~19.5 mm).

This design was part of the first coinage of George VI, minted between 1937 and 1946. The mintage for the 1938 sixpence was over 13 million coins.
