Title:
Farthing - 1938
Description:
This is a 1938 United Kingdom Farthing. A Farthing was 1/4 of a penny. The obverse featured the portrait of the reigning monarch at the time, King George VI (reign 1936 - 1952). On the reverse was Eurasian wren (Troglodytes). The wren design was introduced in 1937, replacing Britannia, and remained until the coin ceased to be legal tender in 1961. The farthing was the lowest value coin of the pre-decimal British pound, worth one-quarter of a penny.
