United States Eisenhower (”Ike”) One Dollar coin dated 1972 with ”D” mint mark (Denver) visible above the date on the obverse. Obverse shows left-facing bust of Dwight D. Eisenhower with legends ”LIBERTY” around the top rim and ”IN GOD WE TRUST” at lower left; date ”1972” at bottom with small ”D” mint mark just above the date.
Reverse shows an eagle landing on the Moon holding an olive branch with Earth above the eagle, 13 stars around, and legends ”UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” around the rim, ”E PLURIBUS UNUM” above the eagle, and denomination ”ONE DOLLAR” along the bottom.
This is the common copper-nickel clad business strike version (not the ”S” silver-clad collector issue). Large dollar coin; typical specifications for clad Eisenhower dollars: 38.1 mm diameter, 22.68 g weight, reeded edge; composition is copper-nickel clad over a copper core.
