Title:
Kennedy Half Dollar (Denver Mint)
Description:
United States Kennedy half dollar coin. Obverse shows left-facing portrait of John F. Kennedy with legends ”LIBERTY” around the rim and the motto ”IN GOD WE TRUST” split on either side of the bust. Date visible as ”1974” with a ”D” mint mark (Denver) below the bust area, indicating a 1974-D issue. Reverse shows the Presidential Seal (heraldic eagle with shield on chest, olive branch in left talon and arrows in right talon) with legend ”UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” around top and ”HALF DOLLAR” along bottom, surrounded by stars. This is the standard circulating copper-nickel clad Kennedy half dollar type used for regular issues dated 1971 and later (not the 40% silver issues which ended for regular circulation in 1970). Typical specifications for this type: reeded edge; standard Kennedy half dollar diameter 30.61; standard weight 11.34; composition commonly described as copper-nickel clad (outer layers 75% copper/25% nickel bonded to a pure copper core).
